NOSD’s self initiatives:
Education
Education is a transformative process that plays a vital role in the development of individuals and society as a whole. It is a powerful tool for socialization, enabling individuals to adapt to their community’s needs and thrive in their environment. Through education, individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to modify their behavior and respond to the socio-economic and political demands of their surroundings. By empowering individuals to learn and grow, education helps them live with dignity and freedom. The impact of our Non-Formal Schools program is evident in the communities we serve. To date, we have established three community schools in remote areas, providing educational opportunities to 420 students, of which 64% are girls. This milestone underscores our commitment to promoting inclusive education and bridging the gap in educational access.

At NOSD, we recognize the importance of education in shaping the future of individuals and communities. To address the educational needs of marginalized communities, we have introduced the Non-Formal Schools program. This innovative initiative operates at the grassroots level, establishing community schools in rural areas and urban slums. Our non-formal schools focus on promoting basic education, addressing critical issues such as access to education, quality of education, and gender equality. By engaging with local communities, we foster community participation, empowerment, and sustainability. By providing quality education, we aim to empower individuals, particularly girls and women, to become active participants in their communities and contribute to their socio-economic development. Through our Non-Formal Schools program, we strive to create a lasting impact and build a brighter future for generations to come.
Skills Development
NOSD has taken a significant step towards empowering women in rural areas by establishing 02 tailoring training centers and 04 stitching and embroidery centers in District Muzaffargarh and Layyah. The primary objective of this initiative is to provide skills enhancement services to young girls and women from deprived families, enabling them to acquire valuable skills in sewing, knitting, embroidery, and other vocational trades. Through this program, NOSD has successfully trained approximately 1350 young girls and women, providing them with the skills and confidence to pursue economic opportunities and improve their socio-economic status. The project is generously supported by Human Appeal Islamabad, reflecting the organization’s commitment to empowering marginalized communities.

GBV Initiatives

NOSD organized a many one-day orientation programs on gender-based domestic violence awareness, focusing on legal and social rights. The program aimed to educate participants about the importance of recognizing and addressing gender-based violence, promoting a culture of respect and equality. A total of 7250 participants, including 5780 women, attended the programs, demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing this critical issue in the community.
Through this initiative, NOSD provided a platform for participants to learn about their legal and social rights, as well as the resources available to support survivors of gender-based violence. By educating individuals about their rights and the resources available, NOSD empowered them to recognize and report cases of gender-based violence, promoting a culture of zero tolerance towards domestic violence. The program is expected to have a positive impact on the community, increasing awareness about gender-based violence and promoting a culture of respect and equality. By taking a proactive approach to addressing this critical issue, NOSD aims to create a safer and more equitable society, where individuals can live without fear of violence and exploitation.

Responding to Disasters

NOSD has demonstrated its commitment to responding to disasters by providing critical support to affected communities. In the aftermath of floods in 2010 and 2014, as well as during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 and flood 2022, NOSD organized free medical camps in the flood-affected areas of Muzaffargarh, Taunsa, and Rajanpur. These medical camps played a vital role in providing essential healthcare services to individuals affected by these disasters. In addition to medical support, NOSD also provided food and clothing assistance to the flood-affected families, helping to meet their basic needs during a time of great need. Furthermore, NOSD distributed Non-Food Items (NFIs) to 200 families, providing them with essential items to support their daily lives.
The comprehensive response by NOSD, including medical services, food, clothing, and NFI distribution, helped to alleviate the suffering of the affected populations and supported their recovery efforts.
